Feeling confused – should I go for Waxing or Diode Laser hair removal?

No need to be confused – both are great choices.

Many of our clients follow our advice: they start with waxing and later swith to laser. In the end, they’re all very happy with the results.

Why Do We Recommend Waxing Before Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal is often considered one of the most advanced and long-lasting hair removal methods. However, to achieve optimal results, there’s a smarter approach:   waxing first, then laser.

Understanding How Laser Hair Removal Works

Laser hair removal uses a specific wavelength of light to penetrate the skin and target the melanin (pigment) in the hair follicle. When the laser energy is absorbed by melanin, it destroys the follicle, which slows down or stops future hair growth.
But here’s the key:

Laser only works effectively on hairs that are in the anagen (growth) phase.

Hair growth occurs in cycles:
Anagen (Growth Phase) – Hair is actively growing; melanin is highly active
Catagen (Transition Phase) – Hair stops growing
Telogen (Resting Phase) – Hair is about to shed
At any given time, only 20–30% of your hair is in the anagen phase, meaning a single laser session can’t treat all the hair effectively. Multiple sessions are needed to catch each hair during its growth cycle.

How Waxing Works

Waxing removes hair from the root by pulling it out of the follicle. This method physically removes the entire hair shaft and temporarily weakens the follicle, slowing down regrowth.
So why wax before laser?

The Common Approach: Shaving Before Laser

Most salons recommend shaving before a laser session, but this practice has some drawbacks:
Shaving doesn’t remove the hair root – the follicle remains untouched
Regrowth can be itchy and uncomfortable, as shaved hair grows back blunt and coarse
Hair grows in mixed cycles, and shaving doesn’t help synchronize them. This means many hairs might not be in the growth phase during your laser session – reducing the effectiveness of the treatment.

Why Waxing First Gives You Better Results

After waxing, your hair follicles go through a regeneration process. When the new hairs start to grow again, they tend to enter the anagen (growth) phase around the same time.
This gives you a perfect window of opportunity:

  • Hair is actively growing and full of melanin
  • Laser can precisely target and destroy the follicles
  • You get better, faster, and more visible results
  • Fewer sessions may be needed over time
  • Your skin feels smoother, with no stubble or razor burn

In Summary: The Smarter Hair Removal Routine = Wax First + Laser Later

Start with waxing to “reset” the hair cycle.
Then, laser at the perfect time to target every active follicle with maximum precision.
This method is not only more effective but also more cost- and time-efficient.
It’s a strategic approach to smoother, longer-lasting results — and your skin will thank you for it.
